QUESTION: Who scored the first-ever touchdown in 49ers franchise history? TS.DHUNG.

Los Angeles Rams v San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have been a football team since 1946, when they entered the All-American Football Conference alongside teams like the New York Yankees, Buffalo Bisons, Cleveland Browns, and Chicago Rockets.

San Francisco finished second in the Western division that first season, winning nine games against five losses behind the 12-2 Browns, who would go on to win the first-ever AAFC Championship against the Yankees on December 12, 1946.

The Niners’ first-ever game happened on their home ground of Kezar Stadium on Sept. 17, 1946, against those same Yankees, a matchup San Francisco would lose 21-7 after opening up the scoring in the first quarter of play.

That score was the first in franchise history, and it came via a 40-yard pass from quarterback Frankie Albert to halfback Len Eshmont with an extra point added by kicker (as well as halfback and defensive back) Joe Vetrano to make the score 7-0 in favor of the 49ers.

New York would tie the contest in the second quarter with a blocked punt returned for a touchdown by Lowell Wagner, then take the lead after halftime with a 7-yard touchdown run by quarterback/tailback Ace Parker, before cementing the victory with 3-yard touchdown scamper by fullback Dewey Proctor.

The 49ers would play three more seasons in the AAFC before joining the NFL for the 1951 campaign, which led to a second first-ever touchdown for the franchise within its new league.

Interestingly enough, their first NFL game also came at Kezar Stadium against the New York Yanks on Sept. 17, 1951, although this was a different franchise from the Yankees of the AAFC.

San Francisco lost that contest as well, this time 21-17, and it never lead at any point during the game.

The first NFL touchdown in 49ers history also featured Albert, who tossed at 2-yard pass to receiver Paul Salata to pull the Niners within one score at 14-7.

Not every football franchise has multiple first touchdowns like this, but the 49ers are one of them.
