Kellen Moore is closer than ever to leaving the Philadelphia Eagles-HN

The Philadelphia Eagles might need a fourth offensive coordinator in four years. On Tuesday night, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy decided to pull himself out of consideration, and Eagles OC Kellen Moore is at the top of the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching search.

According to NFL Network’s insider Mike Garafolo, Moore is the most likely head coach for the Saints after a strong second interview. However, nothing can be finalized before the Super Bowl.

A former offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers, Kellen Moore is in his first year with the Philadelphia Eagles. Beyond him, the Saints are also considering New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, and Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi.

In and out

For different reasons, the Eagles have had to handle multiple offensive coordinator changes over the past few years. Until 2022, the coordinator under Nick Sirianni was Shane Steichen, but he left to be the Indianapolis Colts head coach after the previous Super Bowl appearance.

Brian Johnson was promoted from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator in 2023, but it did not work out and he was fired. This season, Kellen Moore was the option, and the offense got back on track. However, Sirianni might have to look for a new top assistant soon.

Under Kellen Moore, the Eagles offense was sixth in EPA/play and 13th in success rate in 2024. In the playoffs so far, the offense is third in EPA/play and sixth in success rate amongst 14 teams.

A former NFL quarterback, Moore started his coaching career with the Dallas Cowboys in 2018. After spending a season as the quarterbacks coach, he was quickly promoted to offensive coordinator. Before moving to the Eagles, Moore spent a season with the Los Angeles Chargers.Report: Eagles' OC Kellen Moore gets 2nd interview with Saints

In addition to the Saints, Kellen Moore also interviewed for the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars’ jobs, but these vacancies were respectively filled by Brian Schottenheimer and Liam Coen.
