The 2025 NFL free agency period is on the horizon, and for wide receiver needy teams it isn’t looking too great. Tee Higgins is the big target receiver, but with the Cincinnati Bengals having the option to franchise tag him, that takes him off the market. This means that there is the potential for more wide receiver trades to happen, and one of those receivers is George Pickens.

GEORGE PICKENS CAREER STATS:

Pickens was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2022 NFL Draft, and since then, has gone on to accumulate 2,978 yards and 13 touchdowns and averages an ADOT of 14.2 yards. Pickens has the talent to separate and be a threat downfield, the issue is that Pickens has shown discontentment when not getting the ball.

THE ISSUES:

Most recently against the Cincinnati Bengals, it was a horrendous game for Pickens. He had six targets and hauled in just one reception for zero yards. There was a clear disconnect between Pickens and Russell Wilson, which played a huge factor in the loss. Pickens’ tantrums, immaturity, and lack of accountability holds him back from being able to put everything together. With going over 1,000 yards just once, plus a contract period on the horizon, the Steelers need to make a choice, and that decision should be to trade him.

THE DALLAS COWBOYS TO TRADE FOR GEORGE PICKENS:

While on the outside looking in, Dallas doesn’t seem like a more attractive situation than Pittsburgh, but in Dallas, the quarterback situation is better. With being in the NFC East, a division that seems to always be up for grabs, Dallas has the talent to turn things around quickly from their 7-10, playoff missing season, it will just take putting everything together under their new head coach in Brian Schottenheimer.

There’s no denying that Dallas needs an extra wide receiver though, as while they have a quarterback in Dak Prescott, he is coming off a season-ending injury and needs more wide receiver help to throw to other than CeeDee Lamb. This creates the ideal scenario where Pickens will go to a spot where he will receive the abundance of targets, but not the primary attention from opposing defenses as Lamb will attract that. For the Steelers, they get the draft capital needed to address bigger roster holes on their team and have a culture reset at the wide receiver position.
