The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still processing Liam Coen’s backflip from having a new contract remaining as offensive coordinator to then switching to the Jacksonville Jaguars and accepting the head coaching position.

Tampa has since hired Josh Grizzard as its offensive coordinator, and it looks to move on and get rolling with its offseason work.

So far, we haven’t heard much from players or the franchise about Coen’s switch.

Well, we do now. Per the Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud, Baker Mayfield has given his thoughts on Liam’s coaching backflip.

“I left him on read for a little bit just like he left me on read,” Mayfield jokingly said. “So I made him beg. But it was good, I know people are going to be upset about it, but for him, Ashley, and their kids, you can’t argue with that decision, I can’t be mad at that.

“As much as I would want to have him still here, it is what is it, life goes on and I’m happy for him.”

Baker is right in his 4-word summary; “I’m happy for him.”

While the handling wasn’t ideal, in truth, Coen was in line for a job that only 31 others on the planet can have.

So it makes sense for him to accept the job, and yes, it was a little messy, but in the grand scheme of things, you can’t begrudge him for taking the job.

Now, the Buccaneers must move on and get used to the idea of their hotshot coordinator being with another team. …

Which, when looking at it from a human perspective, Mayfield is fine with.
