Draymond Green Blasts Jerry Jones Over Cowboys’ Coaching Decision

A Controversial Hire That Sparked Outrage

When Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys appointed Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach, the decision was met with widespread criticism. Fans were left frustrated, analysts were skeptical, and one of the loudest voices of disapproval came from an unexpected source—Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green.

Draymond Green’s Bold NFL Take

Despite his NBA career, Green has made a name for himself in the NFL media space, co-hosting a weekly Instagram-based football podcast with Jordan Schultz. In a recent episode, Green did not hold back, accusing Jones of lacking the true desire to win. According to him, many professional sports owners claim they want championships, but only a select few are willing to do whatever it takes.

“I don’t think people realize how often and how normal it is that owners don’t want to win,” Green said on the Why Is Draymond Green Talking About Football With Jordan Schultz? podcast. “Every owner doesn’t want to win a Super Bowl… Everybody says they want to win, but there aren’t many owners willing to do whatever it takes.”

Schultz agreed, arguing that Jones is not among the most championship-hungry owners in the NFL. The hosts suggested that, at most, only three to eight owners per year are truly committed to winning at all costs.

Jerry Jones’ Struggles Back Up Green’s Claim

If Jones disagrees with Green’s assertion, his track record does little to support his case. Since taking over as Cowboys owner and general manager, Jones oversaw three Super Bowl victories within his first seven years. However, Dallas has failed to reach the NFC Championship Game since 1995.

While the Cowboys remain one of the league’s most valuable and recognizable franchises, their on-field success has not matched their brand dominance. Green’s comments reignited long-standing debates about Jones’ priorities—whether he is more focused on winning titles or maintaining Dallas’ financial empire.

Draymond Green’s Growing Media Career

Although Green received pushback from Cowboys supporters, his presence in the NFL media space is undeniable. The four-time NBA champion has seamlessly transitioned into sports analysis, frequently appearing on Inside the NBA while also hosting The Draymond Green Show on his personal platforms.

His NFL podcast with Schultz is part of a broader media push, bolstered by a deal he signed with NFL Network ahead of the 2024 season. Given his increasing off-court commitments, many speculate that Green’s retirement from professional basketball is approaching sooner rather than later.

A Retirement That Almost Happened

Green himself admitted that he strongly considered retiring during the 2024 NBA offseason. However, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver convinced him to hold off on hanging up his sneakers.

Still, Green acknowledged that his initial retirement talks stemmed from frustration, particularly after facing an indefinite suspension. He missed 16 games following a controversial incident on December 12, 2023, when he struck Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić in the face.

What’s Next for Green and the Cowboys?

As Green continues to build his post-playing career in media, his bold takes will likely continue stirring debates. Meanwhile, the Cowboys enter the 2024 season under heavy scrutiny. With Brian Schottenheimer at the helm, only time will tell whether Jones’ decision was the right one—or if Green’s harsh criticism proves to be justified.
