Daniil Medvedev‘s coach Gilles Cervara knew that Andy Murray wouldn’t keep quiet after his retirement and would do something to get back to the game. Cervara however has expressed his doubts about Murray becoming coach of Novak Djokovic.

Murray hung up his racket at the Paris Olympics and started to play golf. But toward the end of the season, his partnership with his longtime rival sent shockwaves in the tennis world. Rumors claimed Murray rejected coaching offers from several top players but not Djokovic. It will be his first coaching stint and Cervara is convinced that Murray has no idea how about this job.

Cervara however explained that Djokovic doesn’t need coaching but under Murray, he would go to areas where he ‘wouldn’t go’ on his own and would explore different training methods.

Andy Murray will be in Novak Djokovic‘s coaching team for the Australian Open, the major event where the Scot was beaten by the Serb in four finals. Djokovic hasn’t won a major since his 2023 US Open win and many fans and pundits think partnership with Murray would be a success.

But Gilles Cervara, although positive that Djokovic would learn a lot from this partnership, pointed out that things still wouldn’t be easier for him because of his age.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion ended his season with a 37-9 win-loss record. Three of the nine defeats came from Jannik Sinner (Australian Open semifinal and Shanghai Masters) and Carlos Alcaraz (Wimbledon final) both of whom won all four majors.

The 37-year-old Serb participated in just nine tournaments on the ATP Tour this season but won nothing, clinching just the Olympic gold.
