Nick Sirianni addresses report of Eagles losing ‘homerun’ hire Kellen Moore to Saints HC job-HN

Philadelphia Eagles are expected to lose offensive coordinator Kellen Moore following Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 9.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter all but confirmed during the opening night of the Super Bowl that the New Orleans Saints are hiring Moore as their next head coach.

On Tuesday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni addressed the inevitable of losing Moore, whom he called a “homerun hire” by Philly.

“We’re focused on this game. Kellen is focused on this game. I’m focused on this game not really thinking about anything other than this game because every little bit of attention that you put into something else is the attention you’re not putting into what the main goal is,” Sirianni said. “So, with Kellen, I know that there are opportunities, potentially. You know, what happens will happen but hopefully, I’ve done my job to teach him the things that I know and help him like other coaches have helped me as far as that goes.

“But I know that when Kellen does get his opportunity, I know that he’s highly detailed in teaching the game of football. I think that he loves this game. He works extremely hard. He’s got a great offensive mind to help put our guys in positions to succeed and get better. And man, he’s a phenomenal person. Great person to work with. That’s so important when we’re spending more time with each other than we are with our families, our wives, and our kids. It’s important that you have good people around. And as good as a football coach he is, he’s an even better person. So, got a lot of respect there for Kellen and we’ll see how that plays out at the end of the year.”

Moore can’t officially accept the Saints’ head coach position until after the Super Bowl or it is considered tampering.

Shutting down distractions will be key heading into the big game, though it has to be hard knowing Sunday is more than likely the last time Moore calls plays for Philly’s offense.
