Josh Jacobs keeps it real on what the Packers need to win a Super Bowl next season-kid

The Green Bay Packers are not that far away from being a real Super Bowl contender. Even being the youngest team in football, they made the playoffs in each of the last two seasons and won 11 games in 2024.

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (8) reacts during the second half in an NFC wild card game at Lincoln Financial Field.

In Radio Row during Super Bowl week, running back Josh Jacobs had a series of interviews and talked about what can be done to improve the team’s chances next season.

His answer was pretty real about the current state of offensive football in the NFL.

“We need a wide receiver—a real wide receiver,” Jacobs told Chris Simms. “Love the guys we have, but we need a proven No. 1.”

For Jacobs, the Packers are three pieces away from being amongst the truly elite teams in the league.

“We have the youngest team in the NFL,” Jacobs told Kay Adams on the Up and Adams Show. “We’re still going through some growing pains right now, trying to figure it out, how to do things right on a day-to-day basis. I feel like the little things killed us a lot in the games that we did lose. Once we put it all together, I think we’ll be alright.”

When asked about how many pieces, he was clear:

“I think we need like three.”

Trust in Love

Josh Jacobs finished his first season with Jordan Love. After a tough quarterback year with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023, with a revolving door between Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell, and even Brian Hoyer, he trusts that Love has the potential to be special.

“The thing that stood out the most is the way the ball comes out of his arm. Like, he be spinning it. That was the biggest thing watching film on him before coming. But then actually getting in practice with him, I mean yeah, this dude got it, he definitely got it,” Jacobs added. “I think it’s about just putting it together on a consistent basis for him. But when he figures it out, he’s gonna be special.”

If Jordan Love reaches that consistency and general manager Brian Gutekunst is able to add some pieces to the roster in 2025, the Super Bowl week has the potential to be much more relevant for Jacobs and the Packers.
