Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is a future Hall of Famer. He has accumulated seven seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards. Kelce has now gone nine straight seasons with at least 83 receptions in his career. However, Travis Kelce is 35 years old, and rumors about his future have swirled throughout the season. During a Super Bowl press conference, Kelce gave an update on his future plans.
Travis Kelce Gives Update On Future Plans
Travis Kelce has stated that in three years he plans on being a Kansas City Chiefs and playing football. This is obviously great news for Chiefs fans as there has been uncertainty about when Kelce may retire. Although this is great news for the future, the team and fanbase’s entire focus is on the Super Bowl this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. With quarterback Patrick Mahomes in his prime, it is great for this offense that it sounds like Kelce will be around for the next couple of years.
Hall of Fame resume
Travis Kelce’s resume speaks for itself, and as he plans to keep playing it will only continue to grow. Kelce has won three Super Bowl rings which alone makes him an all-time great. Among tight ends, Kelce has the third most receiving yards of all time, trailing only Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten. Kelce is also third in receptions, trailing the same two tight ends. With three Super Bowl rings and playing for a fourth on Sunday, along with his rankings among all-time tight ends, Kelce is a sure-fire Hall of Famer. His resume is still growing as well.
Impact with the Chiefs
The impact Kelce has had on the Chiefs is obvious and can not be overstated. Kansas City would not have won three Super Bowls and counting without him. Kelce has frequently been a security blanket at tight end for Patrick Mahomes. Kelce has commanded at least 100 targets in all but one season in his career and that one season was his rookie year. In the last six years, he has had at least 90 receptions or more. All of this to say, Travis Kelce has has an incredible impact on the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid, and Kansas City.
What lies ahead
Due to his age, it is unclear how effective Travis Kelce may be in his future years. However, there is no reason to doubt him. Even in his age 35 season, Kelce had 93 receptions for 828 yards. He is especially effective come playoff time, evident by his Divisional Round game against the Houston Texans. Kelce accumulated seven receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs win over the Texans. We should expect much more of the same on Sunday in Super Bowl 59 against a tough Eagles defense. It is worth noting that Kelce has a very busy personal life, dating superstar artist Taylor Swift. However, it seems Travis Kelce is still determined to stay on the field for the next few years and continue to chase Super Bowl titles with the Kansas City Chiefs.
