Stefon Diggs & Texans’ New OC: Inside the Scheduling Drama Fans Are Buzzing About!-HN

Got a question about the Texans?
Life in general?
Drew Dougherty’s your guy.
He’s been with the Texans since 2009 and is chock full of meaningful, as well as generally useless, information. Fire away by clicking

Rita Ravenell: Dear Drew, With Nick Caley as Offensive Coordinator, will the Texans be able to better protect the quarterback next season??
DD: Improving pass protection is a big priority for 2025, and really, for always.

Value of Things: Texans vs. Colts by the numbers - Battle Red Blog

Quarterback C.J. Stroud was sacked 52 times in 2024, which was tied for the 3rd-worst mark in the entire NFL last year. Only the Bears and Browns allowed more sacks, and the Texans were tied with the Seahawks with 54 sacks allowed as a team.

In the season-ending playoff loss at Kansas City, Stroud was sacked eight times, and hit a total of 14 times. In seven of the eight losses in the regular and postseason combined, Stroud was sacked at least four times. In the regular season loss at Kansas City, the Chiefs managed just two sacks in that game. But they hit him 11 times.

How did Texans' Stefon Diggs fare in his first game since leaving the Bills? - syracuse.com

Jim Holton: Dear Drew, What are the chances we re-sign Stefon Diggs for next year?
DD: We’ll see. His quarterback, though, would like to throw to Diggs next season.

“That’s my boy, I would love to have Stef back,” C.J. Stroud said on January 20. “I think we were just getting started. Like you see he was having so much fun and me and him were starting to build a rapport.”

Diggs injured his leg in a late October win over the Colts. Before the injury, he caught 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns, and also ran for a 6-yard score. In the regular season, the Texans were 6-2 with Diggs in the lineup, and 4-5 without him.

Stephen Dougherty: Dear Drew, When, if ever, will the Texas play in the conference championship game? I’m tired of waiting.
DD: Join the club. The players, coaches, everyone who works for the team, and the fanbase all want them to win Super Bowl titles. Several players, like defensive end Will Anderson, Jr. said they need to win more in the regular season to ensure they’re playing home games deeper in the playoffs. The Texans have never hosted a postseason game in the Divisional Round, and the team’s never advanced beyond the Divisional Round. Winning more games would improve their seeding.

Also…sweet last name, Steve.

Clint Ritchie: Hey, Drew! Why do the Texans have to go to Kansas City again next year? We seem to go there every year! It was the same with the Patriots a number of years ago. Why don’t they alternate the home team when the matchups create these consistent opponents?
DD: That’s just the way the schedule works. Last season, the Texans played at Kansas City because each club had won their respective division. Houston will face the Chiefs on the road again in 2025, because the Texans are playing the AFC West. The schedule has odd trends like this over time. The first nine matchups between the two franchises saw seven of those games played at NRG Stadium. In the regular season, since the start of 2019, Houston’s played at Arrowhead Stadium four of five times.

Bryan Phillips : Dear Drew, Since the start of your Fans Wanna Know/Dear Drew column how many letters have you received? Since it’s such a popular column with Texan fans I can only imagine it’s in the hundred of thousands.
DD: Thank you for asking, but that’s a little high. It’s a little closer to about 30,000 questions, give or take a few.
