Green Bay Packers cornerback Robert Rochell has initiated legal action following a 2023 automobile accident that reportedly impacted his football career. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County and accessed by TMZ, details the incident that occurred while Rochell was with the Los Angeles Rams in February 2023.
Rochell was driving his Mercedes on the highway when a speeding vehicle collided with him, leaving him severely injured. He cited multiple injuries, including a fractured elbow, nerve damage, knee and head pain, along with various other bruises.
The Rams had recently celebrated a Super Bowl victory that year, an achievement Rochell claimed he significantly contributed to. “[Rochell] played important minutes during his rookie season and in the playoffs and Super Bowl, earning a championship ring. Following this successful rookie campaign, [Rochell] was set to become a key player on defense.
However, the accident, Rochell stated, ultimately disrupted his promising football career at that point. He needed time away from the field and was released by the Rams later that year. He subsequently joined the practice squads of the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, and Green Bay Packers, eventually signing with the Packers.
He is pursuing an unspecified compensation for the period spent recuperating. “[Rochell] lost millions in potential earnings and significant progress in his NFL career,” the lawsuit claims, as he seeks recompense for his “diminished earning potential” during that period. It remains uncertain what financial consequences the other driver might face.
