Sean McDermott Apologizes to Fans, Pledges Strong Buffalo Bills Comeback
Following a season that fell short of expectations, Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott has issued an apology to fans and vowed to lead the team back stronger in the 2025 season.
McDermott’s pledge comes after a challenging 2024 season and amidst scrutiny of his leadership. While the Bills have achieved consistent regular-season success under McDermott, their inability to make a deep playoff run has led to questions and criticism.
In late 2023, McDermott also faced scrutiny for referencing the 9/11 hijackers in a 2019 team meeting to stress the importance of communication. He apologized for the remarks, stating that he regretted mentioning 9/11 and that his intent was to discuss communication and being on the same page as a team. McDermott also said that he lost a good family friend during the 9/11 attacks.
Despite these challenges, McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane had contract extensions announced in June that run through 2027. McDermott has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to rebound. He’s emphasized the importance of learning from the past season’s shortcomings and using those lessons to fuel improvement and renewed focus.
