The tennis world has been buzzing since Novak Djokovic announced that Andy Murray will join his coaching team ahead of the 2025 season. The Serbian is seeking a fresh start after a disappointing 2024 campaign, which ended without a tour-level title.

Djokovic has previously been coached by tennis greats like Boris Becker and Goran Ivanisevic. His partnership with Ivanisevic came to an end in March 2024 and for most of the season, he was without a coach.

Djokovic struggled on the tour despite collaborating with his mentor, Nenad Zimonjic, before the French Open. That partnership didn’t yield much on the court, as Djokovic’s only silverware came at the Paris Olympics, where he won the singles gold medal.

The 37-year-old believes Murray can revive his game as he seeks to continue his legacy. The former rivals will have their first major test at the 2025 Australian Open.

Tennis legend and former World No. 1 Andy Roddick believes that Murray has the highest tennis IQ. The American legend stated the Brit knows every detail of the sport and will surely improve Djokovic’s game.

Murray, who is a former World No. 1, wrote his name in the history books after becoming the first British man in 77 years to win the Wimbledon title in 2013. He won two other Grand Slams before retiring in August 2024.

Andy Murray’s career was plagued by injuries. After the British star suffered a hip injury in 2019, he never fully recovered from it and it kept resurfacing until the end of his career.

However, despite the challenges, he persevered on the court, winning 46 career titles, including three Grand Slams, 14 Masters 1000 titles, and two Olympic gold medals. Andy Roddick gave his thoughts on why Djokovic hired Murray to be his coach.

Djokovic ended the year as World No. 7 despite starting the season as No. 1. The 37-year-old understands that the young generation of players is catching up and needs some new ideas to bring out his best on the court.
