Latest Brock Purdy Rumor Could Help 49ers Pursue Star Via Trade. HTX

The San Francisco 49ers offseason is in full swing, and the most important thing on their agenda is Brock Purdy’s contract extension. He is entering the final season of his contract and the 49ers need to give him a long-term extension to keep him in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future.

Purdy has long been a polarizing quarterback in NFL circles. How much his next deal should be is a favorite topic of discussion among armchair analysts. The predicted average annual value ranges from anywhere between $40 million and $60 million. It is hard to see Purdy signing for anything less, potentially resulting in a lengthy holdout.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini recently reported that she doesn’t expect that to be the case. The NFL insider said that both sides are very committed to signing the extension sooner than later. She throws out a $55 to $60 million range in annual value as an amount both sides will be comfortable at.

“From everything I know, both sides are very committed to getting this deal done. I think they’re going to begin working on this very soon. This isn’t something they’re going to be pushing off or that we’re going to be discussing during training camp. I think this is something that they’re both in line with. “

Whether that is too much, just right, or not enough is up for debate. What is perhaps as important for the 49ers is the fact that they will get this done quickly to focus on other items on their agenda.

By agreeing to an extension early in the offseason, the 49ers will have a better idea about their financials. This will allow them to have a clearer view of who they can afford in free agency and who they can target via trade.

Browns star defender Myles Garrett has been the apple of a ton of 49ers fans’ eyes. Ever since the All-Pro pass rusher requested a trade earlier this week, the fanbase has been salivating over the idea of landing Garrett.

Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby is another potential trade target the 49ers could pursue.

In order to do that, however, San Francisco needs to figure out their long-term salary structure by handling the Purdy situation. Fortunately for 49ers fans, that seems imminent, paving the way for a more aggressive offseason.
