The Baltimore Ravens bolstered their defensive backfield by selecting Clemson standout Nate Wiggins as a cornerback with the 30th pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Despite this addition, the Ravens are still seeking another cornerback for the perimeter, which might lead them to choose the same position in consecutive first rounds.
In a recent mock draft by Sportsnaut writer Matt Johnson, the Ravens opted for Florida State cornerback Azareye’h Thomas with the 27th overall selection. Johnson notes, “Even without considering his upcoming free agency, the Ravens needed to find a replacement for outside cornerback Brandon Stephens. He remains the sole vulnerability in Baltimore’s secondary.
Azareye’h Thomas from Florida State impressed at the Senior Bowl, displaying impressive physicality and agility at 6-foot-1. He pairs well with Nate Wiggins and would greatly benefit from mentorship by Marlon Humphrey. If drafted by Baltimore, the Ravens could boast a top-five defense in 2025.” The team is likely to explore free agency first to replace Stephens, as drafting the same position two years in a row is uncommon.
However, the Ravens are determined to secure the player they desire. Given that Wiggins is more suited to a slot cornerback role and Thomas fits as an outside cornerback, the Ravens can rationalize drafting both and eventually starting them alongside Marlon Humphrey.
Alternatively, the Ravens might consider 2024 fourth-round pick T.J. Tampa for Stephens’ position, but they will assess this year’s cornerback class against their current roster and free-agent possibilities. The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft will take place on Thursday, April 24, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
