6 Lions Who Won’t Return in 2025 With Season Officially Over-HN

The NFL season has officially finished with the conclusion of the Super Bowl. While the Detroit Lions’ season didn’t end the way many expected, 2024 was still great showing for the franchise.

That said, Detroit has lots of important decisions to make on key players this offseason. With that in mind, here are six Lions veterans who likely won’t return in 2025.

The Lions acquired Carlton Davis on March 13, 2024, via trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Detroit sent a third-round pick in 2024 and two sixth-round picks in 2025 in exchange for one guaranteed season of Davis’s services. Davis’s addition to the Lions lineup brought exactly what the team hoped it would.

In 2024, Davis finished the season as the 21st-ranked cornerback, with a coverage grade of 72.1, according to PFF. Furthermore, Davis recorded 56 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, and a competition percentage against of 55.3% in 13 games.

Unfortunately, Davis’s season ended prematurely after he sustained a broken jaw in the Lions’ week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Nonetheless, Davis’s presence on Detroit’s defense allowed them to run more man-to-man coverage.

Heading into the offseason, Detroit must decide how much they are willing to give Davis to retain him. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, many teams view Davis as the CB2 in free agency this year.

Fowler also projects that the Jacksonville Jaguars will be a team to make a move for him. This is noteworthy since Jaguars owner Shad Khan has shown no issues dishing out big contracts in the past. Jacksonville desperately needs cornerback help, so if Detroit wants Davis back, there could be major competition.

As a result, it wouldn’t be surprising if Lions fans have seen Davis take his last snap with the team.
