BREAKING: Tom Brady Eyes Buffalo, But Is This Why The Bills Keep Saying No?
Despite repeated attempts by Tom Brady to join the Buffalo Bills organization in some capacity, the legendary quarterback has faced rejection for the past three years, leaving many to wonder why. While Brady’s desire to be involved in the NFL is clear, particularly after his minority ownership stake in the Raiders and broadcasting deal with FOX, a specific obstacle appears to be hindering his ambitions in Buffalo.
The most likely reason Brady has been rejected is the “conflict of interest” issue. After Brady acquired a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders, the NFL imposed limitations on his involvement1. These restrictions included barring Brady from entering other teams’ facilities, prohibiting attendance at practices, and preventing participation in production meetings with coaches, players, and executives from any team whose game he was set to cover1.
While those restrictions are being eased a bit for the Super Bowl1, where Brady will be calling the game, the overarching concern remains. As one NFL team owner, Chiefs’ Clark Hunt, commented, “it was unwise for him to participate in production meetings,”1.
Even with Brady trying to be exceptionally cooperative with the league, confirming his adherence to guidelines, that has not been enough for some organizations1. Roger Goodell noted that Brady has been diligent in confirming his adherence to the league’s guidelines. “Tom has been exceptionally cooperative,” Goodell remarked, as noted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal1. “He frequently calls to ask, ‘Am I doing OK?’ He’s genuinely committed to ensuring that he maintains a clear distinction between his roles and avoids putting the league or anyone else in a conflictual situation”1.
Therefore, as long as Brady remains involved with the Raiders, his ability to join another organization directly, like the Buffalo Bills, will likely be restricted.
