Just days after losing Super Bowl 59 to the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22 Sunday in New Orleans, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered another loss – this time in his personal life.
Mahomes’ mother Randi announced on social media on Friday her father, Mahomes’ grandfather Randy had passed away.
“Hard to find the words of holding my father’s hand as he goes to Heaven,” Randi wrote. “I know he’s in a better place. I love you daddy. Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:23.”
Randy was admitted to hospice care shortly before Kansas City’s AFC Championship Game win over the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium. Mahomes’ mom said he was holding on to be able to watch the two-time MVP play in his third straight Super Bowl.
Randi asked for prayers back in September after posting that her father had been admitted to the hospital, though she didn’t disclose the reason why. He was released shortly before Thanksgiving, but his health seemingly took a turn after the New Year.
Many fans took to social media to send their sympathies and well wishes to the Mahomes family, and among those who shared their condolences was Tavia Hunt, the wife of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt.

“I’m so sorry for your loss,” Tavia commented on Randi’s Instagram post. “My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. I pray that you feel God’s comforting presence, and that He will bring you peace and strength in the days ahead. May His love surround you, and may you find comfort in the cherished memories you hold close. .”
Mahomes hasn’t posted publicly on social media since the news broke Friday afternoon.
