Boston College defensive backs coach Ray Brown is heading to the NFL per Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports/CBS. Per his report, Brown will become the cornerbacks coach with the San Francisco 49ers.

Brown came to Boston College last year after coaching with Washington State for two seasons. With the the Cougars, he brought a strong history at the position. During the 2022 season, Brown was part of a defense that ranked third in the Pac-12 Conference in scoring at 22.9 ppg. He coached Chau Smith-Wade to 2022 All-Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention honors as the sophomore earned the Pac-12’s third-best defensive grade among all cornerbacks according to PFF College. Cougar cornerbacks accounted for four interceptions on the season and only allowed more than two passing touchdowns in a game twice on the season. Before his time with Wazzu, he had time at Utah StateTroy, and Abilene Christian.

Bill O’Brien hired Brown as a defensive backs coach this past offseason. During the ’24 season for Boston College, the Eagles improved drastically in interceptions as the unit went up from 8 in 2013 to 17 last year.

This is the second coaching change Boston College has had to make this offseason. Earlier this winter defensive line coach Jeff Comissiong left the team, and was eventually replaced by Jordan Thomas the assistant defensive line coach of the Cleveland Browns.
