A Familiar Face Back in Green Bay The Green Bay Packers have officially hired former Chicago Bears and Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy as their senior offensive assistant. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, this move marks Getsy’s third tenure with the Packers after previously serving in multiple roles within the organization.

Getsy’s earlier stints in Green Bay spanned from 2014 to 2017 and then again from 2019 to 2021. During these years, he contributed to the team’s success in securing five NFC North division titles. His return reunites him with head coach Matt LaFleur, whose offensive system he is already well-acquainted with.

Getsy’s Coaching Strengths Although not widely regarded as an elite play-caller, Getsy has demonstrated a solid track record in coaching quarterbacks and wide receivers. Struggles as Offensive Coordinator After leaving Green Bay in 2021, Getsy assumed the role of offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in 2022. His tenure in Chicago was marked by inconsistency, with the offense failing to generate consistent production. In 2023, the Bears’ offense ranked in the middle of the league in total yardage, averaging 323.2 yards per game. However, their passing offense struggled, ranking in the bottom half of the NFL with just 182.1 yards per game. The Bears also finished with a modest scoring output of 21.2 points per game.

Getsy’s challenges continued when he joined the Las Vegas Raiders as offensive coordinator in 2024. Under his leadership, the Raiders’ offense finished in the bottom half of the league, averaging just 303.2 yards per game. Their rushing attack was the worst in the NFL, producing only 79.8 yards per game. Additionally, the Raiders’ scoring output of 18.2 points per game ranked as the fourth worst in the league. His struggles led to his firing midway through the season, after which he briefly served as a defensive consultant for the Packers.

The Packers’ 2024 Season and Playoff Run Green Bay ended their 2024 campaign with an 11-6 record, finishing third in the NFC North. Their performance earned them a Wild Card berth, but their playoff journey was cut short in the first round with a 22-10 loss to the eventual Super Bowl 59 champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.
