“I know it’s been really, really frustrating for not only him as a player but for us as a club,” Gutekunst stated via ESPN. “When you have a player who’s done what he’s done for us in the past and then not being able to get him out on the field consistently, that’s tough. It’s tough on the player, tough on the organization.”

At his peak, Alexander was considered one of the league’s premier pass defenders, capable of shadowing top receivers, blitzing the quarterback, and making game-changing plays. His absence has allowed the Packers to evaluate their depth, with players like Keisean Nixon stepping up in his place. However, Alexander’s absence has undoubtedly been felt, and according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, multiple team sources have expressed private frustration regarding his availability.

“There are strong indications that Alexander’s time with the Packers will end without him playing another down. Multiple team sources have privately expressed their frustration with Alexander’s inability to stay healthy and/or play through injuries,” Demovsky reported. “For the second straight season, Alexander appeared in only seven of 17 regular-season games. He did not play after November 17 despite practicing on a semi-regular basis, went on injured reserve the final week of the season, and underwent knee surgery on what he said was a torn PCL. Still, he finished second on the team in pass breakups (seven) and tied for second in interceptions (two).”

A Potential Exit on the Horizon?

With uncertainty surrounding his health and long-term viability, many wonder whether the Packers will look to move on from their star cornerback. At 28 years old, Alexander still has plenty of football ahead of him and could thrive either as an outside corner or in a slot role.
