UPDATE: Pittsburgh Steelers legend thinks team will discuss adding 4x All-Pro QB.THANHDUNG

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a former Super Bowl-winning quarterback with 10 Pro Bowl appearances to his name last season. While Russell Wilson helped elevate Arthur Smith’s offense, leading the team to a 6-5 record and ranking 16th in scoring, there’s a sense that there’s plenty of room for improvement.

Now the Steelers will get that chance to pursue roster upgrades this offseason as both Wilson and Justin Fields are set for free agency. Naturally, the Steelers will have a number of options to consider, yet a Pittsburgh legend believes they’ll spend some time considering a future Hall of Famer.

One player who’s expected to become a free agent this offseason is New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He’s spent two seasons with the Jets, the first of which was destroyed by a torn Achilles tendon, and the second only saw him lead a 5-12 record.

However, Rodgers’ individual numbers weren’t too shabby. He had 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, which is respectable enough to believe he can still lead a winning effort in a different atmosphere.

Winners and Losers from Super Bowl LIX

Recently, former Steelers coach Bill Cowher indicated that he believes the Steelers will spend some time discussing whether they should pursue adding Rodgers this offseason. When asked on the Dan Patrick Show whether the Steelers would consider adding Rodgers, Cowher replied, “Yeah,” and explained his reasoning.

“I think there’s going to be a sense of urgency, taking some guys on the back end of their careers. T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward. They’re in the latter stages of their careers. So they want to win now,” Cowher continued. “That’s a big part of what they want to do, but you’ve also got to have a plan moving forward and at that position. There will be dialogue there, but those will be conversations taking place in that building.”

What Cowher says is true, the Steelers never take major steps backward. They expect to make the playoffs every year and so far, through 18 years under Mike Tomlin, they have clinched a postseason spot.

In other words, capable veterans with high upside like Rodgers are very likely to be in play for the Steelers.
