UPDATE: Blockbuster Before Free Agency? Texas Welcomes A Familiar Face!-HN

The Houston Texans continue to add to their 90-man roster ahead of the new league year, which begins in March. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC-2, the Texans are signing long snapper Tucker Addington to a future/reserve deal.

Addington is now the 15th player the Texans have signed to a reserve/future deal since their season ended last month in the divisional round against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 27-year-old long snapper has a few ties to the Lone Star State as he’s from New Braunfels, TX, went to Canyon High School, and played his college ball at Sam Houston State.

After playing at Sam Houston St., Addington took his talents to the USFL, where he played for the Houston Gamblers for the 2022 season. Addington was then signed to the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad on Oct. 5, 2022.

However, Addington only lasted a week on the Cowboys’ taxi squad before getting released. Later that year, the New England Patriots picked him up. Addington played three games during the 2022 season due to an injury to starting long snapper Joe Cardona.

The former USFL long snapper was released the next summer by the Patriots but was signed five days later by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags released Addington ahead of the roster cutdown deadline and didn’t get signed by another team until Dec. 2023.

Houston Texans poised to reap benefits of new salary cap

The Washington Commanders gave Addington another opportunity, signing him to their practice squad. Addington appeared in three games with the Commanders in the 2023 season.

Before the 2024 season began, Addington was released by the Commanders in the spring but was signed in August by New England. The Patriots released Addington ahead of the 53-man roster deadline but re-signed him to the practice squad in October.

Addington appeared in one game for the Patriots before being released later that month. He was signed to the Dolphins practice squad in November and played three games. The former Sam Houston State standout will look to prove himself with the Texans over the next few months.

Texans reportedly not going to pursue free agent wide receiver Mike Evans in free agency
