It would have been a league first, cementing his legacy with the team.

However, his side suffered a nightmare down in New Orleans, being destroyed 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles.

There has never been any talk of the Chiefs moving on from Reid.

But at 66-years-old, and a large family at home, there are always doubts over whether he will want to carry on next season.

However, he has made it clear he will come back to fight again in the 2025-26 NFL campaign.

“Yes, I’ll be back,” he said before the Super Bowl.

Reid has 273 regular season wins in 26 seasons as a head coach.

That is fourth in the all-time list for the NFL, but still 55 behind leader Don Shula.

If the Chiefs’ success continues, it would take another four years to reach the top.

“That’s not part of it,” said Reid when asked if the record was motivation.

“I just enjoy teaching. I don’t get caught up much in the stats or the records.

“I enjoy being around the guys. I enjoy football, the game.

“You can’t put in the hours we do and not enjoy it. I love the game.”

March 12 – Free Agency begins

Reid has won three Super Bowls with the Chiefs, spending 12 seasons with the team after joining in 2013.

The former Eagles head coach is on a staggering $20m-a-year, the highest for his position in the league.

He is understood to have signed a new five year contract in 2024, with a number of bonuses and incentives included.

That could see his stay with the team up until the 2029 season.

The veteran joked last year he was upset with New England Patriots legend Bill Belichick.

That was over the amount of years he had been coaching.
