Impact Chiefs Player's Cryptic Post Should Concern KC Ahead of Free Agency

The Kansas City Chiefs are embarking on a pivotal offseason after coming up short in their attempt at winning three straight Super Bowls. The Chiefs might need to reevaluate and retool the offensive line after their disastrous performance in Super Bowl 59 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In addition to needing to address the offensive line, Kansas City could lose several players to free agency, including veteran pass rusher Charles Omenihu. The 28-year-old defensive lineman is set to hit the open market after signing a two-year, $16 million contract.

On Monday, Omenihu went to Twitter/X and posted, “Know your worth,” which Chiefs fans did not want to see.

Omenihu missed a large portion of the 2024 regular season after suffering a torn ACL in the AFC title game in 2023. However, the veteran defensive end made his 2024 debut in Week 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

In that game, Omenihu had a tackle and played 34 defensive snaps. He finished the regular season with six combined tackles, four quarterback pressures, a QB hit, a forced fumble, and a sack across six games.

Then in the postseason, Omenihu racked up nine combined tackles, three tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a sack.

According to Spotrac.com, the veteran’s calculated market value is a four-year, $47.3 million ($11.8 million average annual salary). Based on his production with the Chiefs over the last two years, it’s unlikely the Chiefs would give Omeninhu a four-year deal of nearly $50 million.

It’s hard to read to much into it over a sample of nine games (six regular season and three playoff), but Pro Football Focus gave Omenihu some poor grades in 2024, including a pass rush grade of 60.1 (ranked 105th among 211 eligible EDGEs) and run defense grade was 63.5 (ranked 83rd),

Nonetheless, since he’s only 28 years old, Omenihu might have a market in free agency and could lock down another two-year deal. If he walks, the Chiefs may need to look to the NFL Draft to address their edge rusher opening.
