After Drake Maye made glaring comments about what teammate Jacoby Brissett meant to him as a veteran, the New England Patriots could look to keep him around.
“He’s the best veteran I could ask for. He was in there, in the room with me,” Maye said, according to PatsFans.com.
Brissett isn’t a bad backup option, and despite him potentially wanting to find a full-time job elsewhere, he could be intrigued by returning to the Patriots and playing for a historically winning organization.
Unfortunately, he’s a free agent this offseason after signing a one-year deal last year.
Brissett also might want to go to a team in a better position to win, as the Patriots are likely a year or two away from truly being Super Bowl contenders with a few moving pieces.
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports looked at potential teams he could fit with, naming the Detroit Lions as an option.
The Lions were one of the better teams in the NFL a season ago but were eliminated during the NFC Divisional Round after being upset by the Washington commanders.
The Lions already have their starting quarterback in Jared Goff, meaning Brissett would be a backup in Detroit, too.
However, if his goal is to win a Super Bowl, and he believes the Lions are in a better position than the Patriots to do that, he could look to join Detroit.
