The San Francisco 49ers entered the 2024 NFL season hoping to avenge their Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but they crashed and burned instead.
The 49ers missed the playoffs after compiling a 6-11 record, good for last in the NFC West.
San Francisco was hit hard by the injury bug, losing key offensive players like Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, and Trent Williams.
Defensively, the 49ers were still a solid unit, though they weren’t nearly as formidable as in past years.
Things seemingly fell apart late in the regular season when linebacker De’Vondre Campbell abruptly left the sidelines mid-game in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Campbell was heavily criticized for the move and still refuses to explain why he left his teammates hanging via his personal X account.
“I ain’t addressing s***. I’m rich and never have to work another day of my life and I told Kyle Shannahan and John Lynch that when they FaceTime me and begged me to come out there an hour after Green Bay cut me,” Campbell tweeted.
It was an odd situation to see play out as Campbell simply walked off the field and back to the locker room without much of an explanation.
His recent string of tweets seem to indicate that he has no intention of ever explaining himself, though that works against him as no teams are going to want to sign him.
Campbell had his reasons, but it sounds like the world will truly never know his truth.
