INDIANAPOLIS — Recently, rumors have circulated suggesting that Tyreek Hill was responsible for the dismissal of Wes Welker as the Miami Dolphins’ wide receivers coach. However, head coach Mike McDaniel has refuted these claims.

During the scouting combine on Tuesday morning, McDaniel stated that it was not the case that difficulties in managing Tyreek Hill led to Welker’s termination. “I understand why some might jump to that conclusion,” McDaniel explained.

“But it wasn’t the situation at all. I hold Wes Welker in high regard, and in my role, I must prioritize the bigger picture, which sometimes means setting aside personal relationships. I take my responsibilities as head coach very seriously and do not take decisions impacting people’s careers lightly.

It’s crucial for me to clearly communicate my expectations to a coach, and if those expectations aren’t met, it’s my duty to make the tough decisions. The change was driven by factors far beyond Tyreek’s situation at the season’s end.” Since the season concluded, Hill has made headlines, beginning with McDaniel noting that tardiness to meetings was a significant issue in 2024.

After the 2024 season, Welker was one of two coaches dismissed, along with special teams coordinator Danny Crossman. Welker has been succeeded by Robert Prince, a former assistant coach with the Dallas Cowboys, while Craig Aukerman has taken over Crossman’s role as special teams coordinator.
