Following an incredibly productive offseason, the atmosphere at Fenway South has reached unprecedented levels of excitement. The Boston Red Sox are preparing for the 2025 season, and unlike previous years, there is a tangible buzz in the clubhouse. Many are convinced that this Red Sox team has limitless potential.

Among the believers is Red Sox icon and 2004 World Series victor Pedro Martínez, who envisions the team making it to the postseason. Martínez declared, “No ceiling for this team,” highlighting the talent brought in by the front office this winter, especially in the starting rotation and middle infield. Martínez has a point. As he mentioned, if the Red Sox stay healthy (a challenge in recent seasons), they can compete with any team in the league.

In addition to his praise for the team, Martínez spoke highly of the team’s new pitching acquisition, Walker Buehler, particularly for his role in last year’s World Series victory over the New York Yankees. “I have been a fan of him, and him a fan of me…He’s gonna go to New York and they’re gonna remember that he was the one that shut them down.

He’s gonna be intimidating, he’s gonna be booed, and he’s gonna be hated by the Yankees because of what he did. Same thing happened to me.” Buehler is a key contributor for the Red Sox, especially since the team requires sufficient quality depth in its pitching staff. The former Los Angeles Dodger has faced challenges in recent years. Buehler only participated in 12 games in 2022 before requiring Tommy John surgery, which caused him to miss the entire 2023 season.

Buehler returned to action in the second half of the 2024 season, posting a disappointing 5.38 ERA in 16 starts. However, after securing the final out of the World Series, it seems Buehler has found his stride. Entering a season fully healthy for the first time since 2022, he is ready to be a significant asset for the 2025 Red Sox, as when in top form, Buehler is among the best starters in MLB.
