Will the Cowboys Move Cooper Beebe to Guard? Brian Schottenheimer Weighs In
A Major Hole to Fill on the Offensive Line
With the shocking retirement of Zack Martin, the Dallas Cowboys find themselves scrambling to fill a massive void at right guard. Martin, a future Hall of Famer, was the anchor of the Cowboys’ offensive line for years, and replacing him won’t be easy.
The Cowboys have multiple options, including signing a free agent like Will Hernandez, who has experience working with offensive coordinator Klayton Adams. However, an internal solution is also on the table—moving second-year lineman Cooper Beebe from center to guard.
Brian Schottenheimer Addresses the Beebe Question
While speaking at the NFL Combine, Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was asked about the possibility of shifting Beebe to guard. He acknowledged the idea but remained noncommittal, emphasizing that the team’s primary focus is putting its best five offensive linemen on the field.
Schottenheimer also noted the challenges of moving a player to a new position after investing time and effort in developing them elsewhere. However, Beebe’s versatility could make the transition easier than it might seem.
Beebe’s Rookie Success at Center
Originally a standout guard at Kansas State, Beebe transitioned to center as a rookie in 2024 and exceeded expectations. He quickly became one of the Cowboys’ most dependable rookies, showing poise and skill in the middle of the offensive line.
His strong debut season at center raises questions about whether shifting him back to guard is the right move. Yet, given his collegiate experience and natural fit at the position, the Cowboys may decide it’s worth the switch—especially now that Beebe will be working under his former Kansas State offensive coordinator, Conor Riley, who was recently hired as the Cowboys’ offensive line coach.
A Decision That Will Shape the Offensive Line
If Dallas moves Beebe to guard, they will then need to address the center position, potentially through the draft or free agency. If they keep him at center, they must find a strong replacement for Martin at guard.
The Cowboys are at a crossroads, and whatever decision they make regarding Beebe will have a lasting impact on their offensive line. With free agency and the draft approaching, all eyes are on Dallas as they look to rebuild their interior protection for 2025.
