Buccaneers GM Jason Licht Reveals Thoughts on Chris Godwin Injury Recovery an.THANHDUNG

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are working hard to keep their quarterback room together. After drafting Jalen McMillan from Washington last offseason, the trio of McMillan, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin were a force in 2024.

Godwin suffered a serious injury in slop time against the Ravens in Week 7 last year, but Bucs general manager Jason Licht isn’t deterred and has faith in Godwin’s recovery.

Licht also appears to be dead-set on retaining the services of Chris Godwin as he possibly enters free agency on March 12.

“Hopefully, we can come to an agreement with him because Chris means the world to this organization, to all of us individually but as an organization as a whole,” Licht told reporters at the NFL Combine. “Nobody has been more resilient than him. We’ve been down this road, a similar path, with him. Nobody has been more resilient and works harder than him.

“So those are the good things. If I were a betting man, I’d bet on Chris. But the facts are we have to wade through some variables here.”

Godwin was a third-round pick from Penn State in 2017 and has played second-fiddle to Mike Evans for his entire career. Not that that’s a bad thing. Last season, Godwin was leading the league in a couple of wideout stats before dislocating his with under two minutes remaining in the Bucs’ 41-31 loss to the Ravens in Week 7.

“The facts are he had a serious injury and missed a lot of time and there is still some uncertainty,” Licht said. “So, we moved the void so it gives us more options and flexibility as it pertains to him and we got to make a good decision. Hopefully, we can come to an agreement with him because Chris means the world to this organization and to all of us individually. I mean nobody has been more resilient than him. We have similarly been down this road before and nobody works harder than him.

“If I was a betting man, I would bet on Chris. We have to weigh through some variables here.”
