Matthew Golden turned a lot of heads the moment he ran a 4.29 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. If it was a question on if he was worth it for the Pittsburgh Steelers at 21st overall, it might now be a question on if he falls all the way there.
Either way, Golden’s tape, paired with his top-tier athleticism, drew a comparison from NFL Network’s draft analyst and former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah. Jeremiah sees Golden akin to former Steelers wide receiver and Super Bowl hero Santonio Holmes.
Judge it for yourself on his film, but the athletic testing is one that is scarily similar right off the bat.
Golden did not come onto the first-round radar for the public until his unreal performance in the College Football Playoff, but NFL teams long loved Golden before that breakout. Now, he is solidifying their thoughts on him as a high-level player.
Golden is likely to go in the first round and could hop players like Emeka Egbuka and Luther Burden on many teams’ boards. How high he goes remains a question, but the Steelers are right in the thick of things to land Golden.
