Kansas City Chiefs Rumor Predicts Signing New Veteran Running Back - Athlon Sports

We are at the end of the scouting combine in Indianapolis, and rumors are swirling about what teams will do in free agency and the draft. The Kansas City Chiefs’ combine was dominated by the news of Travis Kelce returning in 2025.

But there is also a little piece of information regarding their running back situation.

The Athletic’s Dianna Roussini, who like other credentialed media members, compiles a list of things they’ve heard throughout the week, and in her piece, a veteran running back might be in consideration.

“They could be in the market to add a veteran running back, as well,” Russini wrote.

With Kareem Hunt a free agent and Isiah Pacheco not hitting the strides many thought he would upon his return from injury, the Chiefs have a need.

Nick Chubb, Najee Harris, and Aaron Jones are several solid options, all of whom would be good additions to the running back room.

Chubb was coming off his knee injury last season (just 332 yards, three touchdowns in eight games), while Harris rushed for 1,000 yards for the fourth straight season. As for Jones, in his first year as a Minnesota Viking, he, too, surpassed 1,000 rushing yards and had five rushing touchdowns, the most since 2020.

Of course, the Chiefs also have an abundance of draft options if they want to go that route, with the running back class loaded with talent.

But maybe the Chiefs want a veteran, and any of the three named above would fit the bill. Plus, they won’t break the bank either.

Pacheco needs help, and it isn’t known if Hunt will return. If not, the Chiefs do have plenty of options at their disposal.
