Shohei Ohtani Hits a Home Run in His First Spring At-Bat
March 1, 2025
GLENDALE, Arizona – Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani made a stunning start to the 2025 spring season by hitting a home run in his first at-bat after recovering from shoulder surgery.
Serving as the designated hitter for the Dodgers, Ohtani launched a solo home run off a 3-2 pitch from Los Angeles Angels pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. (reuters.com)
Last season, Ohtani played a crucial role in helping the Dodgers win the World Series before undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. While he did not pitch in 2024 due to Tommy John surgery, Ohtani still led the National League with 54 home runs, 130 RBIs, and 59 stolen bases. He became the first player in history to achieve 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a single season, earning his third career MVP award. He hopes to return to pitching early in the 2025 season. During the game, Ohtani also had a flyout and a strikeout in the Dodgers’ 6-5 victory over the Angels in Phoenix. (reuters.com)
Ohtani’s strong return from injury is a positive sign for the Dodgers as they prepare for the 2025 season.
