A significant aspect of the Miami Dolphins’ offseason strategy has been resolved, as seasoned pass rusher Bradley Chubb has agreed to modify his contract. Chubb has consented to reduce his base salary, initially set at $19.5 million, to decrease his cap hit, which exceeded $28 million.

Despite the adjustment, Chubb can still achieve his full earnings through incentives related to playing time and sacks, as reported by NFL journalist Jordan Schultz. Without this contract revision, the Dolphins would likely have released Chubb this offseason, potentially designating him a post-June 1 cut. With his restructured deal, wide receiver Tyreek Hill now holds the second-largest cap figure on the team for 2025 at $27.7 million, trailing only quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s $39.2 million. Chubb’s updated cap figure remains undisclosed at this time.

Chubb, Chop, and Phillips will see Chubb entering his third full season with the Dolphins after being traded from the Denver Broncos during the 2022 NFL Trade Deadline. Chubb spent all of 2024 on the Physically Unable to Perform list as he recuperated from a severe knee injury sustained in Baltimore in December 2023. Although he resumed practice late in the season, the Dolphins chose to keep him on PUP.

Following the season, Chubb expressed enthusiasm for the 2025 season and playing alongside Jaelan Phillips and 2024 first-round pick Chop Robinson. “The potential is endless, man,” Chubb remarked. “It’s amazing to watch Chop’s progress toward season’s end and JP’s dedication to his rehabilitation. For me, the offseason is all about hard work.

I’m eager to see how our three minds and athletic abilities can unite and make things happen. Plus, you have Zach in the middle, delivering back-to-back 10-sack seasons, which is rare in this league, man. Having that element is going to be crucial.”

With Chubb, Chop, and Jaelan Phillips, along with the Dolphins’ recent tender to exclusive-rights free agent Cameron Goode, the team now has eight edge defenders under contract for 2025. The others include Mohamed Kamara, William Bradley-King, Grayson Murphy, and Derrick McLendon.

Additionally, Cam Brown and Tyus Bowser are set to become unrestricted free agents on March 12, while Quinton Bell is slated to become a restricted free agent. In his only complete season with the Dolphins, Chubb tallied 11 sacks in 2023 and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2022 after splitting his time between the Broncos and Dolphins, marking his second appearance in the postseason all-star game.
