49ers Sign Rams Receiver to Two-Year Deal -baro

DeMarcus Robinson will enter his 10th season as a pro. He caught 31 passes for 505 yards and seven touchdowns with the Rams last season.

The San Francisco 49ers sign former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Demarcus Robinson to a two-year contract worth $9.5 million. He was relatively productive in 2024 with the Rams, catching 31 passes for 505 yards and seven touchdowns despite missing most of the month of December.

Robinson figures to fill in for Brandon Aiyuk until he returns from injury. That would mean the Niners go into the season with Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall, and Robinson as their main trio of pass catchers — outside of George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey.

Robinson had receptions of 14, 42, 32, 19, 16, 25, 39, 23, 13, 46, and 31. That tells me he has big play ability and speed to stretch the field. Sean McVay primarily used Robinson as an outside receiver. Of the 993 snaps he played in 2024, 700 of those came out wide. That would allow Jennings to stay in the slot while Robinson and Pearsall are interchangeable.

Something else that stands out about Robinson was how often the Rams targeted him deep. He had 22 targets at 20+ yards for 286 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Matthew Stafford had a 95.8 passer rating when targeting Robinson deep. He was targeted more at the intermediate (27) and deep (22) levels of the field than the under nine yards (20), making Robinson a good fit.

For those who pay attention to separation stats, Robinson was in the top 20 in average separation scores in each of the past three seasons. In 2024, Robinson was 20th.

Robinson, who turns 31 in September, had a career year last year with the Rams. He hadn’t surpassed 500 receiving yards in a season before 2024. The familiarity, speed, size, fit, and durability likely made Robinson an intriguing option for the 49ers.

Rams general manager Les Snead told reporters “He does have some things that he’s gotta work through legally [this] offseason that could prevent play time in the future, so that’s the reality. We appreciate what he’s done” around the NFL Combine.

The Rams might have been concerned about Robinson’s DUI arrest and whether it would result in a suspension. We will see if that is resolved.
