The 2024-25 NBA season for the Golden State Warriors has been a rollercoaster, filled with both highs and lows. For several months, the team struggled to meet expectations and found themselves near the bottom of the Western Conference standings. However, things have improved over the past few weeks, and the Warriors are now in a better position. Despite this, Stephen Curry remains cautious.

“I like where we are right now, I think we have what it takes to do it,” Curry said in a recent interview with Steiny & Guru on 95.7 The Game“But I’m not fast-forwarding to say we are a championship team now because we have another level to get to.”

Reflecting on the challenges the Warriors faced early in the season, Steph acknowledged: “When you feel far away from it because you are not rewarded consistently with wins on a nightly basis, so there’s growing pains with the team, it does kind of knock at your confidence and your ability to imagine what it’s like to be a relevant contender.

However, the guard is now more optimistic about the current version of the Warriors. “I’m excited about the challenge,” he said. All I wanted to be is in the fight, all I wanted was a chance, an ability to look across the Western Conference and say, ‘Yeah, we can go toe-to-toe with whoever.’”

Curry’s big motivation

In the same interview, Curry emphasized the importance of keeping the pursuit of a title as the Warriors’ main goal. The quest for his fifth championship ring is what drives him. “Somebody asked me this summer, ‘Why are you still playing for?’” Stephen said. “That’s literally the only thing I’m playing for.”

Can the Warriors compete for the title?

Not long ago, the Golden State Warriors were not only out of the Playoff picture, but also struggling to secure a spot in the Play-In Tournament. However, things took a turn, especially after the addition of Jimmy Butler in early February, and since then, the Warriors have been in top form.

The team is currently riding a five-game winning streak, and in their last 14 games, they have posted an impressive 12-2 record. This resurgence has propelled them up the Western Conference standings, where they now sit in sixth place.

With a 37-28 record, the Warriors are firmly in Playoff contention, and as the season enters its final stretch, they will not only aim to maintain their position but also improve it. Their closest rivals, the Houston Rockets (40-25) and the Memphis Grizzlies (41-24), will be key competitors. However, Golden State’s main advantage is the experience of its star players, which could prove to be crucial as the postseason approaches.
