Vikings Pursuit of Aaron Rodgers Gets Doused in Cold Water..ANHTRUC.

Several teams are interested in signing Aaron Rodgers after he got released by the New York Jets on Wednesday. One team that’s supposedly a dark horse candidate is the Minnesota Vikings, but a recent report has doused that rumor in cold water.

The Vikings have seen Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones, and Nick Mullens find new homes this offseason, leaving J.J. McCarthy as their only quarterback. As a result, they are looking at veteran quarterbacks, with Rodgers being an option. Heck, the guy Rodgers used to sit behind, Brett Favre, thinks it’s a move the legendary QB should consider.

“By all means, sign with them. They got a really good football team. They’re loaded at pretty much every position,” Favre said during an interview on “The Will Cain Show.” “They made it to the playoffs last year. They got a tremendous fan base, much like the Packers. If you get the opportunity, that’s a good place to win. Of course, you gotta play the Packers then.”

Minnesota could be an appealing option for Rodgers, as they have an assortment of weapons on offense, and their head coach, Kevin O’Connell, just revived Darnold’s career in 2024. Despite that, it doesn’t appear as if the Vikings are interested in Rodgers, as they are instead looking for a veteran to support McCarthy’s development.

“While there have been murmurs about the Vikings and Rodgers, I have not gotten the sense Minnesota wants to go in that direction. After losing backups Daniel Jones and Nick Mullens in free agency, the Vikings will likely add a veteran to their QB room at some point as they prepare 2024 first-rounder J.J. McCarthy,” Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reported.

Rodgers played all 17 games for the Jets last season, throwing for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns. McCarthy, who was selected with the No. 10 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, did not play at all last season after suffering a season-ending meniscus injury in August.
