‘They treat me like sh!t’ – Former Packers player reveals why shockingly low new contract deal led him to leave Green Bay. nhathung

The Green Bay Packers have turned to free agency to bolster their lineup, making notable additions by signing guard Aaron Banks and cornerback Nate Hobbs. While they welcomed new talent, some players departed for other teams. Running back AJ Dillon joined the Philadelphia Eagles to serve as the backup to Saquon Barkley.

Packers Will Not Be Re-Signing Josh Myers

Dillon wasn’t the only player to leave on Wednesday; ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the New York Jets secured C/G Josh Myers on a one-year contract worth $3.5 million. Earlier in the week, the Jets also brought in quarterback Justin Fields. Myers and Fields, who played together at Ohio State from 2019 to 2020, are now teammates once more in the NFL.

Drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Myers provided the Packers with an agile presence in the interior line, starting 56 games over his four-year stint with the team. Despite being a reliable option for Green Bay, he faced challenges on the line. In 2024, he allowed 29 pressures, five QB hits, and was penalized four times.

He concluded the season with a 55.3 overall rating (49th out of 64 centers), a 63.4 pass-blocking score (37th out of 64 centers), and a 52.2 run-blocking score (54th out of 64 centers). His performance in 2023 wasn’t much better, surrendering 28 pressures and five sacks. Myers recorded even lower PFF ratings, with a 55.8 overall score (39th out of 56 centers) and a 52.7 pass-blocking score (40th out of 56 centers).

After four years in Green Bay, the Packers opted not to re-sign him. His $3.5 million contract indicates a limited market. The chance to reunite with college teammates Fields, Garrett Wilson, and Jeremy Ruckert likely influenced his choice. While he may not be a guaranteed starter for the Jets, his versatility in playing both center and guard is an asset.
