REPORT: Packers icon Aaron Rodgers might consider an unexpected choice regarding his career ahead. nhathung

Former Green Bay Packers standout quarterback Aaron Rodgers is certainly taking his time in deciding on which NFL team he will suit up for this fall. Initially, the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants were the two teams in consideration, but recently, the Minnesota Vikings have entered the mix as well.

Who is Aaron Rodgers signing with? Why four-time MVP hasn't committed to Steelers, Vikings, Giants | Sporting News

Although the Steelers have been perceived as frontrunners to secure his talents, a Saturday report from The Athletic indicates that he is “hoping” to join the Vikings. The possibility of Rodgers becoming a Viking hinges on the decision of head coach Kevin O’Connell.

If O’Connell declines Rodgers and chooses to stick with second-year QB J.J. McCarthy, the four-time MVP might immediately opt for retirement according to the same report in The Athletic. “Rodgers has been approached by the Steelers and Giants but has essentially put both teams on standby while awaiting clarity from the Vikings’ camp,” Michael Silver, Dianna Russini, and Alec Lewis reported.

Aaron Rodgers-Vikings Rumors Take a Surprise New Turn

“Should Minnesota no longer be an option, it’s plausible that Rodgers may reject both the Steelers (a 2024 playoff team) and the Giants to instead retire.” At 41, Rodgers spent the past two seasons with the New York Jets after departing Green Bay.

His first season with the Jets was cut short after he ruptured his Achilles during the first offensive drive of Week 1, and although he showed flashes of brilliance in 2024, the team finished 5-12, missing the playoffs. It’s challenging to envision someone as prideful as Rodgers ending his career on such a low note. However, with Rodgers these days, one can never truly predict his next move.
