The Dallas Cowboys are in search of a backup quarterback after Cooper Rush signed a two-year, $12.2 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens. With the departure of Rush, speculation around Jerry Jones’ team is intensifying.
Instead of turning to free agency, the Cowboys might find their replacement in the 2025 draft set for April. While Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are top prospects, the Cowboys’ management is likely eyeing Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel as a potential pick.
The executive vice president, Stephen Jones, recently mentioned the team’s intention to draft a young quarterback, a plan that seems even more likely now. He stated, “We aim to bring in a young quarterback. We’ll assess our options and see if we can develop a promising talent from the draft.”
This offseason, the Cowboys brought in Junior Adams, a former Oregon assistant, as their wide receivers coach. Adams is well-acquainted with Gabriel’s abilities and what he could offer the team. In 2024, Gabriel achieved 3,857 passing yards and 30 touchdowns over 14 games, alongside 149 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns. His collegiate career concluded with a Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State.
