Cowboys predicted to swing blockbuster trade, landing 987-yard WR for Dak Prescott image

CeeDee Lamb is phenomenal, but he can’t carry the Dallas Cowboys’ passing game without a little more help.

Lamb led the Cowboys with 1,194 receiving yards in 2024, but no one else on the team topped Jalen Tolbert’s 610. Even the game’s most elite wideouts shouldn’t be nearly doubling their closest teammate, especially in a good-not-great season.

Unfortunately, much of free agency has already passed the Cowboys over without meaningful receiving upgrades. How will the Cowboys address this obvious deficiency?

One NFL writer believes they will trade down twice in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft–once from the 12th pick to the 23rd, and once more from the 23rd to the 25th, while still landing one of the draft’s top receiving prospects.

On Saturday, K.D. Drummond of Cowboys wire mock drafted Texas wideout Matthew Golden to the Cowboys with that 25th-overall selection, while picking up extra second- and third-round picks.

“Moving back in this way put Dallas in a better position for most of the remaining guys who this GM preferred, though passing on safety Malaki Starks was a tough call,” Drummond wrote.

“Golden is emerging in some eyes as the best WR in this class. Dallas took the third wideout back in 2020 and it worked out pretty well with CeeDee Lamb.”

Golden, 21, put up 987 receiving yards in 16 games at Texas this past season, despite playing in a run-heavy offense. He ran a 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, the second-fastest of any prospect, which definitely boosted his draft stock.

If Golden could help take the top off defenses and divert some of the attention away from Lamb, quarterback Dak Prescott could have a much more productive season in 2025, ideally delivering Dallas a playoff berth in the process.
