The Philadelphia Phillies have made bolstering their starting rotation a clear priority, securing long-term deals for Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Cristopher Sánchez, alongside rotation staples Jesús Luzardo and Ranger Suárez. With limited space for pitching prospects to break through, it’s left most of the Phillies’ farm system open for trade talks—outside of top prospect Andrew Painter, who could debut in 2025.

Athlon Sports recently floated a trade scenario where Philadelphia would send eighth-ranked prospect and utility infielder to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for power-hitting outfielder.  For top veteran, a move to Chicago could provide an opportunity to revitalize his status as a top young pitcher and possibly log MLB innings this year. Abel has struggled to find his stride, posting a 6.46 ERA over 108.2 innings in 24 starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley last season.

Meanwhile, Robert Jr., still just 27, could also benefit from a fresh start. Though he had a down year in 2024, he smashed 38 home runs and 36 doubles during his All-Star 2023 campaign. A move to hitter-friendly Citizens Bank Park might help him regain that form. The White Sox, on the other hand, may be motivated to move on from Robert Jr.’s six-year, $50 million contract.

Sosa, 29, would give Chicago a reliable veteran presence with defensive flexibility and a solid bat after hitting .257 in 249 at-bats last season. The deal could be a win-win, addressing the Phillies’ need for a power bat in center field while giving Chicago pitching depth and infield versatility.
