INTERESTING CONTRACT: “Prime Coach” Deion Sanders hints that the Dolphins should draft his son, making Mike McDaniel laugh “He’s not even close to being… nhathung

A Hall of Fame player is keeping an eye on the Miami Dolphins’ quarterback dilemma. In a recent episode of “Nightcap,” Colorado’s coach Deion Sanders suggested that the Dolphins should consider drafting his son, Shedeur, if Tua Tagovailoa experiences another concussion.

Deion Sanders asked for 'homework' on son's bankruptcy: What we found

Sanders asked co-hosts Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, “What’s the smart move if you’re the Dolphins? Do you draft a quarterback like I’m suggesting, or do you stick with Tua and assess his condition carefully? Is his health the priority here?” Johnson took a moment to grasp Sanders’ point, but when he did, the former All-Pro receiver voiced the unspoken truth.

“Imagine Tua’s injury doesn’t work out, and they make a strategic choice to pick a quarterback in the draft: Shedeur to the Dolphins,” Johnson stated. “So that’s what you’re hinting at, huh?” Sanders joked. “That’s why he mentioned it, Ocho!” Sharpe replied excitedly.

Currently standing at 1-3, the Dolphins are projected to secure the second pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, based on a draft order tracking site. Although they likely wouldn’t opt for a quarterback after extending Tagovailoa’s contract for four years at $212 million, circumstances could shift if the former Alabama star faces another concussion.

Sanders has been open about his desire to influence Shedeur’s future team, a move previously seen with players like John Elway and Eli Manning. He even jested about orchestrating a move similar to Manning’s, who famously avoided joining the San Diego Chargers by forcing a trade to the New York Giants after being selected first overall in the 2004 NFL Draft.

“I want the best for him,” Deion remarked during the same “Nightcap” episode. “I want his happiness too. You don’t usually get to decide where your son ends up because of the draft, but we know how things go. We know which teams aren’t striving for success in the NFL. There are those always stuck at the bottom. That’s not a scenario you want for your kid or relatives. Nobody does. So we know what’s up.”

It’s understandable why Deion would favor Shedeur joining the Dolphins, adorned in aqua and orange. The team boasts a compelling roster with dynamic receivers like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, along with a promising running back, De’Von Achane. Conversely, Shedeur stands as a top draft prospect. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. recently declared the Colorado quarterback as the top choice.

In five games, Shedeur has completed about 70% of his throws, with 14 touchdowns against only three interceptions. His 1,630 passing yards rank him sixth nationally. “Shedeur Sanders has endured a lot,” Kiper noted. “I can’t think of another quarterback who could withstand such challenges and keep playing. I’m inclined to rank Shedeur as QB1 because of that resilience.”
