The Dallas Cowboys recognized they had a dependable backup quarterback in Cooper Rush, who had established himself as a reliable temporary starter in recent seasons. Last year, he came close to helping the Cowboys make a last-minute push for the NFL Playoffs, but they ultimately fell short.
However, during NFL free agency, Rush signed a two-year deal with a maximum worth of $12 million with the Baltimore Ravens. Rush will certainly be missed, and he expressed his feelings with a heartfelt farewell message to the fans, accompanied by a video montage from his time in Dallas.
“From an undrafted rookie wearing [No. 7] to an eight-year veteran wearing [No. 10], I cherished every moment in a Cowboys jersey,” Rush shared on Instagram. He added, “Thank you Dallas for all the love you extended to me and my family.
I’m eager for the next chapter but eternally grateful for the first one.” Rush achieved a 9-5 record as a starter, with 18 touchdown passes and eight interceptions during his tenure with the Cowboys. Now that Rush has departed and Trey Lance is not anticipated to return, the Cowboys will seek to bring in a younger quarterback to support Dak Prescott.
They are expected to aim for a mid-round pick in the NFL Draft to secure a young signal-caller. The 2025 NFL Draft will take place in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with the first round scheduled for Thursday, April 24. The second and third rounds will occur on Friday, April 25, and the final rounds will conclude on Saturday, April 26.
