The Miami Dolphins may be facing a challenge involving their star wide receiver, Tyreek Hill. Following the Dolphins’ 32-20 defeat to the New York Jets, Hill publicly expressed his wish to be traded, capturing the attention of the sports community.
This announcement follows the Dolphins’ conclusion of the regular season with an 8-9 record. Although tensions might have eased, the relationship with the disgruntled eight-time Pro-Bowler could be difficult to repair. With uncertain prospects for the Dolphins in the upcoming 2025 NFL Season, it could be strategic for them to consider trading some of their top players, including Hill, for a gradual rebuild.
Hill is currently in the second year of his $90 million contract with the Dolphins. The team restructured his deal this season to a base salary of $10 million, and he is slated to earn $51.8 million next year; however, the Dolphins have the option to exit the deal with a $15.5 million cap hit.
Several teams might be interested in acquiring the dynamic and fast receiver before his performance starts to decline. Among those teams, the Green Bay Packers could be keen to provide quarterback Jordan Love with dependable targets.
Green Bay ranked 12th in passing offense and eighth in scoring offense last season. The Packers recognize the potential for improvement if Love connects well with his receivers. While Jayden Reed and Christian Watson have shown promise, they lack the explosive speed that Hill offers.
Hill is eager to prove he remains one of the NFL’s elite receivers. Last season, he recorded 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdowns across all 17 games, marking some of his lowest stats since his injury with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019. This occurred despite quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missing five games and the Dolphins’ inconsistent passing game.
Hill’s addition could provide the Packers with an advantage to capture the NFC North title for the first time since 2021 and rival the Detroit Lions for the division’s most thrilling offense. The cost to acquire Hill might be steep, potentially involving multiple second-round picks, but it could be justified for a Super Bowl pursuit.
