Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (17) sits out a portion of the fourth quarter after the Bills held a large lead over then Jets during second half action at the Bills home game against the New York Jets at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Dec. 29, 2024.
The Buffalo Bills are making some interesting moves at quarterback as they head into the playoffs. They just signed Mike White to their active roster from the practice squad, which means we could see a three-QB rotation in their final regular season game against the New England Patriots.1
Now, Josh Allen is still the undisputed starter. He’ll keep his impressive streak of 114 consecutive starts alive, but the plan is to pull him early to keep him fresh for the playoffs. That’s where things get interesting.
Mitch Trubisky will take over for Allen, but head coach Sean McDermott has hinted that we might even see some Mike White action.2 It’s a chance for White to show what he can do and maybe even earn a spot on the playoff roster.
White’s had a bit of a journeyman career so far. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys back in 2018 but didn’t make the final cut. He bounced around a bit before landing with the New York Jets, where he had some memorable moments filling in for Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson.
He then spent some time with the Miami Dolphins as Tua Tagovailoa’s backup, but he didn’t see much playing time. Now he’s with the Bills, and this could be his chance to make a real impact.
It’s not every day you see a team with three potential starting quarterbacks. The Bills are clearly making sure they have all their bases covered as they gear up for a Super Bowl run. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out, both in the final regular season game and potentially in the playoffs. Keep an eye on Mike White – he could be a surprise factor for the Bills down the stretch.
