The Detroit Lions, currently 12-2, aim to recover after a tough 48-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills last week.

In addition to the defeat, the Lions suffered injuries to several key players. Running back David Montgomery (knee), defensive lineman Alim McNeill (knee), cornerback Carlton Davis (jaw), and Khalil Dorsey (leg) all exited the game.

McNeill is out for the season with a torn ACL, and DL Aidan Hutchinson was already lost earlier in the year due to a broken tibia and fibula in Week 6. With an NFL-high 21 players on injured reserve, the Lions face a challenging road ahead as they prepare for a potential Super Bowl run.

Despite relying on offseason depth, Detroit may have an unexpected chance to strengthen its defensive line.

Calais Campbell Could Be Released by Miami Dolphins

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that the Dolphins may release DL Calais Campbell if they’re eliminated from playoff contention, allowing him to join a contending team.

Miami, sitting at 6-8, must win its final three games and get outside help to secure a playoff spot. NFL.com gives them just a 6% chance of advancing to the postseason.

The Dolphins face the 49ers, Browns, and Jets in their remaining games. While they may be favored in two of the three, the odds remain against them.

Campbell, 38, continues to perform at a high level, recording 43 tackles, ten tackles for loss, five pass deflections, and four sacks. PFF rates him with an 83.4 overall grade (7th among 214 defensive linemen) and an 86.6 run-defense grade (1st among 214).

Adding Campbell would address a critical need for the Lions, shoring up their defensive line amidst multiple injuries.

This situation bears watching over the coming weeks, and if Campbell becomes available, Detroit should make signing him a top priority.
