Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antwaan Randle-El is getting promoted as he follows former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to the Chicago Bears. Randle-El will become Johnson’s wide receivers coach and assistant head, garnering him a big step up in his coaching career.
Randle-El was a longtime wide receiver, including for their Super Bowl XL victory, where he tossed a touchdown pass to Hines Ward on a reverse. He returned to the Steelers after leaving to head to Washington in 2010 and retired after they lost the Super Bowl against the Green Bay Packers.
He has been an NFL coach since 2019, when he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an offensive assistant under Bruce Arians. After he left the Buccaneers in 2021, he became the wide receivers coach in Detroit.
He had been there ever since, but now he will head to Chicago to work with Johnson and those wide receivers. Randle-El is a native of Harvey, Illinois, which is a suburb of Chicago, so this a homecoming for Randle-El.
