REPORT: NFL exec predicts $112 million potential Steelers QB target will retire.THANHDUNG

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a pivotal offseason ahead, as the team lost four straight games to end the 2024 regular season and suffered a pitiful wild card defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. Falling apart late in the season has become a trend for Mike Tomlin’s group over the last five years, and the franchise must make some drastic changes over the next few months.

One position that could look completely different in Pittsburgh in 2025 is quarterback. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields will be unrestricted free agents this offseason, and there is a ton of uncertainty surrounding the future of both signal-callers.

Aaron Rodgers Can't Hold Back Because of Rookie Missteps

There’s a chance that the Steelers will be in the quarterback market, and according to NFL executives, New York Jets signal-caller Aaron Rodgers, a popular quarterback target for teams this offseason, will not be on the market.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler spoke to a few personnel figures around the league, and the executives predict Rodgers will retire this offseason instead of playing another year with a different team.

“But I’m just trying to think of a logical place for him (Rodgers) to play, and I can’t think of one,” is a quote from an AFC executive in Fowler’s article. “I’m guessing he doesn’t want to go to a rebuild. And if you’re a contender, I’m not sure they want to take on Aaron Rodgers and all that comes with that. So, he might just come to the conclusion that he’s done.”

Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and has a spot waiting for him in Canton when he’s eligible for the Hall of Fame. The four-time league MVP has been considered a “longshot” to return to New York next season since December, and Rodgers said ahead of the Jets season finale versus the Miami Dolphins that he has thought about retirement.

The 10-time Pro Bowler would be an intriguing fit in Pittsburgh if he decides to play another year, as Rodgers would be a slight upgrade over Wilson and still has some gas left in the tank. However, the 2004 first-round pick is 41 years old and wouldn’t be a long-term solution at the sport’s most vital position for the Steelers.
